This guitar quickly found a new home, if you are looking for a fine classical guitar please give me a call... On my homepage I quote Manuel: "A guitar is more than just a sound box, it is part of your soul". Is that not a perfect truth? Over the years I have had the good fortune to hear many fine Velazquez guitars, and among them, this one is exceptional. Classical guitarist and GFA winner Dennis Azabagic said of this guitar "Very rich, beautiful sound...even across all registers. Easy to play...very nice instrument. Good projection." I am in complete agreement with Dennis regarding his evaluation. Velazquez guitars have been played by some of the greats as we all know, and are prized for their rich Spanish character. This guitar, built in 1981, has a magnificent German Spruce top with subtle 'bear claw' features. The back and sides are of old pre-cites Brazilian Rosewood. The guitar has been very well cared for and is in really remarkable condition, appearing new new really. There are three areas of note on the soundboard, all of little concern to me, but that must be mentioned. On the very edges of the soundboard on both lower bouts are very tight prominent grain areas. I looked at them very closely and I can't really call them cracks, and they are so close the the edge they are fully supported internally and so mirror examination reveals nothing about them. There is also one very very tight, very thin area that could be a tiny crack of perhaps 1" on the upper right bout near the neck. None of these appear serious, all are very very tight, not open at all, and appear very stable. Of note, but not of concern is how I would describe them. The guitar is VERY loud for a Velazquez, excellent and notable volume in my opinion. The tonal character is very rich, very melodic, nearly cedar-like in some aspects, darker than some Spruce guitars and not at all bright or harsh, a very 'pretty' Spanish inspired character. A fine Velazquez in excellent condition with unexpected volume and a beautiful voice... Copyright 2010 Classic Guitars International - All rights reserved |
