This is a very fine Santos, it has been nicely restored with several cracks on the top and back being expertly repaired and the guitar was re-finished at some point in its life and probably re-fretted as well. The high quality of the restoration appears to be somewhat recent, maybe in the last five to ten years would be my best guess, and were accomplished at an excellent level of craftsmanship.
The result is a truly Beautiful guitar restored to nearly new appearance, with a beautiful rosette and nice fret board, and a rich golden honey color to the finish that gives the whole guitar a warm glow. I just opened the case and stared, that kind of pretty.
There are times when a restored guitar loses something in the process, the special nature of what made it original is somehow slightly diminished, and the guitar sounds ‘like’ when it was original, but does not sound like it IS original. Not so in this case, the essence of a very fine Santos has been fully retained in every respect. This guitar has an enchanting beauty, volume that you might not expect, and the tone is captivating. Very clear, extremely well balanced, and requiring only the lightest touch to release full rich notes.
This is a beautiful Santos for a player or collector, a fine example of the Maestro’s art.
