It is with the deepest sadness that I report to guitar lovers that we have lost one of our most creative and innovative spirits, Thomas Humphrey, on April 16, 2008. Only last night I called Tom to share with him that I had a client who was visiting and who was downstairs playing many guitars by fine builders, including a Humphrey Millennium. I told Tom that every time the client played the Millennium I could tell, it stood out even among the very best, as a musical and stunningly beautiful guitar. Tom, in his own very humble way, simply said " Chris, I don't know how it happens myself, I build with my heart and that is what comes out, I don't even know how it happens but I feel blessed". Tom had just sent me a wonderful 7 string guitar that I am hand carrying to Spain for his client on Monday, one of the last guitars he was to complete.

Tom was admired by all, and his mark on the guitar world will be felt for many many years. His innovative ideas, and his fertile mind were his trademark. I loved talking guitars with Tom, he was passionate about every detail. He will be deeply missed.

Tom passed quickly, in his wife's arms, as he would have wished. I know you will all join me in sending your condolences to his family. I miss you already Tom, you left us too soon.
