Man is it hard to find great Reyes these days. I have turned down several that were just "OK", and I have seen them pop up elsewhere, but I try to select only the very best that I find. This is one of those. It belongs to a good friend of mine in Europe, who is buying a house now and decided to sell his guitar to help do so. Tough choice for him, great opportunity for you. I sat down and played Vicente Amigo's "Callejon de la Luna" and "Morente" on this guitar, and it reminded me exactly of what Vicente's own 1988 Reyes sounds like live. I heard it live in concert several times, but more importantly he let me play a few notes back stage un-amplified and un-engineered, so I know what it sounds like in your lap. And it sounds like this guitar. Open, resonant, a bit raucous, balsy but musical. The guitar has no cracks and no repairs, except that a new golpeadore has been installed sometime in the past as this is not the usual Reyes style golpeadore. At that time it may have had some touch up repolishing done on the top, if so, it was so well done it is hard to confirm, so I can't say for certain, but my guess is it was buffed up a bit sometime in the past. The back and sides appear original still. There is some very minor playing wear, but all in all a beautiful Reyes from the Plaza del Potro days. On top of all this the guitar comes with a 'best in the world' carbon fiber, hand built, Karura case that sells for $1250 itself! ©2008 Classic Guitars International - All rights reserved |
