2003 Marcelino Lopez Neito Blanca
Top: Spruce • Sides & Back: Spanish Cypress • Scale: 650mm
Origin: Spain • Price: $5,000

What a unique and wonderful guitar from one of the better known and more enigmatic Luthiers in Spain, Marcelino Lopez Nieto. These guitars sell new for $8.500 and thus this guitar is extremely well priced. The moment you view it you know it is unique, from the vintage looking maple golpeadores, to the artful diamond cletes along the inside of the guitar preventively supporting the seams of the well constructed three piece back, to the tiny inscribed medallions on the bridge, you can tell that the luthier paid attention to every detail of construction. The Spruce is superb, much like the ‘bear claw’ Spruce you might find on a fine Manuel Velazquez classical. Raspy and growly yet can be clear and clean, it seems as at home with flamenco as it does with a beautiful classical solo piece, very multi-faceted. It has not been played much and I suspect it will unfold even more with some routine playing. Very nice new, yet vintage feeling, Blanca.
