I can’t get one of these now rare and special guitars in the shop without feeling a twinge of sadness still at the passing of Tom, a good friend of mine, in April of 2008. After being the only dealer in the world for years that Tom Humphrey trusted with his guitars, it felt so odd to just one day know that he was no longer in our world, and I would no longer be able to offer new Millennium guitars to my clients. So these days I am always excited when, all too infrequently now, one of these lovely ladies comes back to visit me for a while on her way to a new home. And so it is with this beauty.

As most of you know along with many other fine artists, the fabulous Assad Duo have played Humphrey Millennium guitars for many many years. Tom had developed a special ‘look’ ‘feel’ and ‘sound’ just for them and made them matching guitars. If you have ever heard them in concert you know how superb their Millennium’s sound. Tom approached me on day and said that he would like to make a few very limited ‘copies’ of the Assad Duo guitars, and he called it of course his ‘Assad Model’. As his exclusive dealer, I was lucky enough to have perhaps 4 or 5 of these come to my shop.

This Assad Model Millennium came to me if I recall from Tom, he had a client who owned one and who had decided to try Spruce guitars for a while so Tom made him a Spruce one. He re-polished this one and sent it off to me and it still looks like new. You can see a couple minor marks below the polish on the surface, but for all purposes it looks nearly brand new.

With Tom’s patented elevated fingerboard these guitars almost play as easily as if they had a cutaway, and the lattice braced building style compliments the lovely voice with ample power and projection and a nice quick response, all attributes prized by hobby players and concert artists alike.

This Assad Model is lovely to look at, especially the flame maple stripe along the back and Tom’s unique rosette, and equally as delightful to hear. Just listen to the Assad’s playing theirs and you can hear what this sounds like, well played in, nice sustain, the whole package.
