This guitar was built at the time when Gernot had asked me to represent him, and at that time he was still a practicing Psychologist. Gernot asked me to help him transition to a full time builder by agreeing to purchase a set number of guitars, and I was glad to help him make the transition to full time luthier by doing as he requested. At that time Matthias Dammann had been building double tops for years already, and Gernot was aspiring to produce a Dammann copy in the form of a double top guitar. Prior to that time he was focused more on what I would call a "Ruck inspired" guitar. He would spend a lot of time at my shop evaluating and photographing Ruck guitars. This double top is as good as any of his current double tops that I have heard. Gernot is a clean builder, so the quality of craftsmanship is very good, even meticulous.The guitar was originally owned by Friedman Wuttke, who recorded a CD with it. A copy of the CD is included with the guitar. One of my clients pointed out that another website is offering a 98 Wagner double top for $20,000!! Making this double top a steal at only $7,500.
