| This guitar has been owned for many years by a client of mine who ultimately purchases two Smallman's and just took delivery of a brand new Spruce Jim Redgate to compliment her Smallman Cedar guitars. And so, her tried and true 96 Redgate is now being passed on to the next player as she enjoys her new Spruce Redgate. The guitar has some cosmetic issues which is why it is so well priced. Like all builders, once in a great while a batch of finish has issues. Back in 1996 Jim had such a batch of lacquer and this was one of the guitars that was sprayed with that lacquer. The top and back are fine, but there is generalized 'finish crazing' on the sides. In addition there are some nicks and scratches from years of playing. Structurally solid and with the trademark Redgate sound this guitar represents a good opportunity for the player who has always wanted a Redgate, but does not yet have the budget for the current prices of around $10,000. ©2007 Classic Guitars International • All rights reserved |
