“An American Rodriguez!” . That is how William Kanengiser of the LA Guitar Quartet described this guitar when he played it, and I couldn’t agree more. Close your eyes and listen, and you’d swear you were playing an incredible vintage Rodriquez. Sonorous, singing, musical basses combine with rich, full, bell like trebles to produce this Rodriguez-like tone. The instrument is well played in, and has a marvelous ‘open’ quality to it, the notes feeling like they leap from the strings effortlessly. The back and sides are of high quality, tightly figured, Brazilian Rosewood. The Cedar top is in excellent condition, having only a couple minor ‘dings’. I have had the pleasure of offering several pre-millennium Humphrey’s (note the 1976 example on the ‘recently sold’ listing on this site), and I can confidently state that this is the best example of his pre-millennium guitars that I have ever seen. If you have always loved the sound of the great Rodriguez guitars, but don’t happen to have $25,000 to shell out- this guitar will give you everything you have been looking for, and at a more reasonable price too.
