You'd be right if you predicted that I feel like a kid at Christmas every time Bob is kind enough to build a guitar for my shop. But this was a particular treat, because it was the first Spruce composite (double) top that he has sent to me. I find about half my clients prefer Cedar and about half prefer Spruce, but when it comes to double tops, most folks think only cedar. I have been very interested in Spruce double tops, having a slight preference for spruce myself, and Robert really thrilled me when he agreed to build this guitar. I am over the top impressed with this guitar it is exquisite beyond words. The craftsmanship is at the highest level found today, just impeccable, and I seldom use that word!! If you read my article ( find it on the home page upper right corner) about the origin and evolution of the double top guitar, you will note that Matthias Dammann proudly notes that one of his major influences as a builder was Robert Ruck. This guitar allows you to easily understand why that is so.

To begin with the woods are superior, it has such a flawless and refined beauty and elegance to it that the new owner is likely to spend as much time gazing at it, as they are playing it. As with all Ruck's, playability is beyond expectations, like my guitar teacher, Adam DelMonte used to say when a guitar played particularly smooth 'this plays like butter!" and so it does. The character is immediately identifiable as 'pure Ruck', it has balance, clarity, evenness and sounds exactly like a traditional fan braced solid top Ruck, only with even more focus, volume, and projection. a Ruck on steroids in other words. I sooo enjoyed sitting down with this guitar, it has everything in every aspect in perfect balance. Decades of the finest building give Bob an insight to the most subtle aspects of creating his sound, and all the knowledge and experience he has garnered is apparent in this guitar. A Ruck at the very highest and most special level. Top it off with a fine set of Graf tuners, and you have, well, 'perfection'. Nice.
