Jim Redgate is now universally recognized as one of the world's top luthiers. I have worked with Jim since 1996 and for the past several years I have had the honor of hearing literally every guitar he has built. The workmanship, playability, and the musical vision he expresses in his instruments has garnered him fans all over the globe. I think by now I must have happy Redgate owners in just about every major country where there are serious classical guitar players. It has been a fascinating journey watching his art evolve, and over the years we have become good friends who visit each other when we can. A couple of years ago I was sitting in a room with Ana Vidovic and her first Redgate which she loved. We sat and played ( OK she played and I just thought to myself 'i'll never sound like that' heh heh ) and we discussed every minute aspect of the sound. I shared all this with Jim, who had many ideas of where he wanted to take his sound as well, and the result was a huge leap from an already amazing 06 Redgate that Ana had, to a new instrument so incredible that Ana has travelled with it ever since. Consequently Jim's lattice guitars have really attained almost cult status.
Jim is a VERY consistent builder and this guitar sounds much like Ana's new Redgate, powerful, articulate, with strong supple basses and clear round trebles. Jim's actions and neck carves are legendary and this guitar is super easy to play, with the elevated fingerboard and arm rest just adding to the players comfort and ease. A superb concert guitar in every way. Jim uses a 12 hole tie block and this guitar also comes with a top of the line Karura 'Artist Touring Case' in black carbon fiber.
If you have heard any of Ana's concerts or recordings, well, you have some idea already of the sound created by this guitar.
