This lovely Meneghelli, one of only two luthiers endorsed by Jose and Liam Romanillos, has found a new home, I am hoping for another instrument this year, please contact me for details... When I open the case holding one of Claudio's guitars for the first time there is a palpable aura of suspense in the air because I know I am in for a visual treat, I just never know exactly what it is going to be. Claudios workmanship, woods, and attention to detail are peerless and this , combined with his uncanny similarity to Romanillos sound, always offer the nicest surprise when I get to preview a new Meneghelli guitar. This time he really outdid himself. The jaw dropping ebony used in the back and sides, similar to the ebony used on the Woodfield guitar that Scott Tennant recently acquired from me, is not only visually stunning, but tonally beautiful as well. Claudio obtains his Spruce from the same area that Romanillos did and this combined with the fact that he studied intensively with Jose and Liam no doubt contributes to the similarity that exists between a Meneghelli and a Romanillos. The ornamentation around the headstock, rosette, tie block and back is subtle, intricate and visually striking. Tonally, as I mentioned the guitar is highly reminiscent of a Romanillos, and surprisingly open for a new Spruce guitar, already responsive and suggesting how much is in store once she is played in. She has that Romanillos like 'liquid shimmering' quality that gives a liveliness to the notes that only a very fine Spruce guitar can deliver. If you have always dreamt of a Romanillos but found the 15 year wait an issue, this fine Meneghelli maybe the answer to your prayers.
