Sitting down with one of Greg's guitars is like sitting down with a familiar old friend, they just feel welcoming, familiar and supportive. The elevated fret board makes playability supreme, equalled only by perhaps the humphrey Millenniums of the past, so nice. As I noted before, not long ago I asked Greg to build a guitar much like this for the shop, but before he could send it to me, David Russell liked it so much that he acquired it from Greg, and he had to build me another one. Good problem for a builder to have eh? Well this guitar has the same voice and personality as 'the one that got away' :-), beautiful clear tone with richness, not too dark and not too bright, just right to my ears. Volume and projection are excellent, and Greg's a master of intonation so of course that aspect is unparalleled really. What a delightful and inspiring guitar. This guitar sounds somehow like a cross between what you think of as a 'lattice guitar sound' and what you think of as a 'double top guitar sound', an enticing blend. Greg added also a 20th half fret, 12 hole tie block, and TKL case. A fine Byers from this much loved and respected builder.... ©2011 Classic Guitars International • All rights reserved |
