OMG is this an amazing Byers!! Greg told me he felt confident that this may be one of the best guitars he has ever built, so when it arrived I was very curious to hear this guitar. Geeeez, was he right, this is an amazing Byers, he just raised the bar even higher with this one. You may recall that not long ago I asked Greg to build a guitar in this exact configuration for my shop but before he could send it, David Russell had a chance to play it and he was so impressed that he asked to buy it. I was very happy for Greg and this guitar confirms why players of all levels adore his guitars in this way. It just has everything. The tone is in a word 'perfect', the ideal blend of contemporary and traditional character, so beautiful and at the same time powerful and responsive in the modern way, just totally mind bendingly good. Greg's guitars have been compared to Humphrey Millennium's in the past, but really at this point he has evolved so clearly beyond into his own zone, they now sound like a blend between a fine fan brace, a fine double top and a fine lattice all in one. Open, clear, complex and resonant. I really don't know how he pulls this off. Gorgeous. I just can't praise this enough. The fretboard is raised of course and provides supreme access to the upper registers and also has a slight twist to give relief on the bass side, the action is liquid smooth and so comfortable to play, intonation is spot on with compensated nut AND saddle. The Graf LF05 tuners are flawless, Beautiful Rosewood back and sides, a custom carbon fiber Karura case and case cover, everything is just the 'best of the best'. A particularly nice Byers, and that my friends, is saying one heck of alot... ©2010 Classic Guitars International • All rights reserved |
