2009 Fritz Mueller Cedar Double Top

Fritz has created another absolutely mind boggling double top this time. This guitar has rich creamy basses, and full bell like trebles so often found on fine double tops, really beautiful. The notes fly off the string at the slightest touch leading to effortless playing, also enhanced by a superior neck carve that makes even those difficult stretches easy to play. The volume is top level and the guitar projects with equal effectiveness. The overall effect is of a fine Cedar guitar with a beautiful voice but with extraordinary presence and volume. The tonal character is Cedar but it is not too dark or with too much sustain, instead it is beautifully focused and with sustain that enhances instead of dominates in a very elegant way. This is a very very fine double top.

The guitar has top quality Graf tuners which are so precise and accurate that they will spoil you. In addition, unlike other tuners they do not 'unwind' as the guitar top oscillates and so they help to keep the guitar in tune while you play. Fritz uses an elevated fret board as well which makes playing in the higher registers much more user friendly! He utilizes a twelve hole tie block to secure the strings which is being seen on more and more guitars these days, and with good reason. He also adds a very comfortable as well as functional arm rest. This is not only more comfortable on your forearm, but also prevents the players arm from dampening the movement of the soundboard and thus assists in preserving the full tone of the soundboard. A properly placed and sized sound port which I really like a lot. There is some controversy over whether sound ports really create any effect at all, but all you have to do is play some with the port open, then have a friend cover the port while you play and you can quite easily hear the enhanced stereophonic effect that the port produces when the right size and location. I find it very inspiring from the point of view of the players experience.

Finally Fritz presents his guitars in the top of the line white Karura carbon fiber cases with a case cover as well, the best protection you can buy in a lightweight case. A beautiful and commanding guitar, with a refined presence, a full array of the best features and all packaged in a fine case/cover. Fritz continues to grow his ever expanding fan base, and his waiting list is now pushing out beyond the three year point last I heard.
