David has the distinction of being only the second "Jose and Liam Romanillos Selected Luthier" ever presented. You can read more about this honor by clicking here. You can learn more about David Merrin by clicking here. Jose and Liam are extraordinarily particular about the builder they choose as their selected luthier for the year, and so I am always eager to receive the first guitar. David has been building, and playing for many years, and at one point studied guitar at the Trinity College of Music for four years. He also has the privilege to care for and restore one of the largest collections in the UK, regularly working with guitars of Arias, Fleta, Friederich, Bouchet, Huaser and Romanillos among many others. Not surprisingly then his guitars reflect a deep knowledge and understanding of the building styles of all the great makers. His instruments reflect most strongly the influence of Torres, Hauser and Romanillos infused with David's own ideas as gleaned from working on the instruments of the well known Luthiers noted above. This guitar is beautifully crafted with a fine Spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides, a flawless V joint on the head stock, and an intricate and lovely rosette design which is mirrored on the tie block. The character is very refined, elegant and sweet, reflecting its heritage. Excellent sustain and clarity enhance the Spanish nature of the tone. As a player himself he is obviously focused on creating a comfortable action, and even with my small, less than powerful hands I find it very comfortable to play. There is little doubt David's guitars are garnering much deserved attention, it is my pleasure to join with Jose and Liam Romanillos and present to the guitar world: David Merrin. Congratulations David. To learn more about David Merrin CLICK HERE
