Andrés has really raised the bar with this guitar,! He was excited when he completed it and gave the guitar rave reviews from Spain. When it arrived recently I found that his praise of this guitar was fully warranted indeed. The guitar has a very smooth, warm, even, rich character overall, very well balanced, great sustain, particularly in the upper registers due, Andrés says, to his neck design which has the neck going all the way to the sound hole. The basses and trebles produce a harmonious whole, the basses being very resonant and even, the trebles rich and round. The guitar produces ample volume in a very focused manner, has wonderful sustain but not so much that individual notes are lost, really an exceptional Marvi. The sides are doubled, similar to Bernabe for example, the inner lining being of Maple. This is one reason for the volume produced, and also the Maple lining adds a little 'something extra' to the tone, not unlike a Bernabe Royal or Imperial. The back and sides are of beautiful Rosewood from Brazil (Caviuna) with an elegant center feature of sap wood appearing like a waterfall of honey down the center of the back. The Graf tuners with snakewood nobs harmonize perfectly with the beauty of the other woods used in the construction of this guitar and are specially designed to resist de-tuning during playing and liquid smooth. The guitar has been French Polished to a beautiful glass-like sheen, and Andrés uses a twelve hole tie block to secure the strings well. The fretboard is slightly elevated making access to the upper registers more comfortable. I have Robert Ruck to thank for introducing me to Andrés Marvi, as it was at his suggestion that I visited Andres in Spain and to see and hear his guitars. Anthony Graham Devine, Goran Krivokapic, Aniello Desiderio, Gerardo Nunez among others play Marvi guitars enthusiastically. Andy's reputation continues to grow as more and more players around the world have discovered his guitars, and this guitar sets a new standard for Marvi guitars, really a wonderful instrument.
