This fine Woodfield has found a new home, I am hoping for another Spruce lattice brace soon, please contact me for details... Philip continues to accumulate accolades for his guitars, the most recent coming from Raymond Burley. Raymond Burley, a regular contributor to "Classical Guitar" magazine and a fine concert and recording artist, often plays with harpsichordists, string quartets, and even percussionists. He was for years a duo partner with Alice Artzt as well. Raymond needed more volume than a traditional guitar could offer, but tended not to like the tone of some of the contemporary guitars. That was until he played a Woodfield lattice guitar. He now owns one and finds that it provides the volume he needs in his playing situation without sacrificing any of the tonal beauty that he demands. This guitar has strong, robust volume, excellent sustain, and a supremely comfortable 'easy' action. The tone is rich, full and very pretty, not at all bright or harsh in any way. A warm sounding Spruce in other words. The body shape, size and feel is that of a traditional guitar, so you feel immediately familiar with it against your body, yet the tone and volume are something more than you expect. The wood on the back and sides is 50 year old aged Honduras Rosewood, long considered by many Spanish Luthiers as the most viable alternative to Brazilian Rosewood, and which itself is becoming scarce. The Sloan tuners have been custom fitted by Philip with beautiful ebony buttons. Philip adds an elegant double helix design on the back which adds a rich detail to the nicely figured Rosewood. I sell as many of these guitars each year as Philip is kind enough to send me. If you like the look and feel of traditional Spruce guitars but long for something with more response and power, Philip's guitars will highly satisfy you. And the price? While these guitars compare very favorably with guitars in the $10,000-$12,000 range, they are still priced at about half that (for now).
