Click on the navigation for the “Romanillos Luthier Selection” above to learn more about this gifted luthier. Hand picked by Jose and Liam Romanillos as their most promising luthier for 2007, and with good reason. This is the second guitar Claudio has sent to me here in the US, though he has been building for years and has attended the Romanillos course at least four times! He builds in the Romanillos style and the result is a beautifully constructed, artistic and gorgeous sounding Romanillos inspired guitar. The rosette is inspired by V. Arias and is perfectly accomplished and stunning. The back and sides were specially constructed from superb very old Brazilian, comprising 8 pieces all in all (four on the back and four on the sides), which demonstrates with supreme clarity the building skills and attention to detail that Claudio possesses. The finish is French Polish (Shellac) and flawless. On this guitar Claudio doubled the sides, not unlike Paulino Bernabe, using Birch as the interior liner. This has resulted in a more powerful guitar with excellent volume. The wood for the top is of Swiss Spruce from the same exact area where Jose Romanillos acquired the wood for his guitars. The tone, as I noted, is Romanillos inspired and beautiful. A serious and thought provoking guitar.
