This 2005 lattice brace recently found a new home. I am expecting a new 2007 Greg Byers lattice braced Cedar guitar, with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides and Rodgers tuners soon, please contact me for details or to place a deposit for first right of preview regarding this guitar.

Greg’s guitars have been played by the likes of David Russell and David Tanenbaum, and he has developed a loyal and committed following over the years. Although initially perhaps most influenced by his courses with Jose Romanillos in the mid 80’s, he has continued to develop his own style in the tradition of all fine Luthiers. Greg says '"I owe a lot to Romanillos, even though our guitars are very different”.Greg is very interested in soundboard design and has an experimental nature, so while he has to this point been best known for his traditionally braced guitars, he is now very excited to focus his knowledge and skills on his lattice braced concept. This guitar is an example of that evolution, a Cedar lattice braced guitar. Greg has opted to forgo the use of carbon fibre, and uses only wood in his bracing pattern, feeling perhaps that this imparts a more traditional sound to his lattice braced guitars. I invited a very fine player over to the shop and asked him to play while I listened to this guitar played along side a Jim Redgate, a Matthias Dammann, and a Greg Smallman guitar. Each guitar had it’s own personality, but I was delighted to confirm what I suspected: This guitar was very comfortable along side of these other contemporary builders. It possesses excellent playability due to the elevated fingerboard, volume is right on par with what one would expect from a fine lattice braced instrument, and I believe Greg has met his goal of adding the advantages of well executed lattice bracing, without losing any of the ‘traditional’ tone that his clients expect from his guitars. A very fine instrument.
