While the guitar pictured here has found a new home, I am hoping for a new Series II soon, please contact me for details... The Series ll is one of Philips most popular designs. The guitar is the perfect counter point to Philips lattice braced design guitars. This is because the lattice braced guitars are designed to emphasize volume while retaining the tonal character of a traditional guitar, whereas the Series ll attempts the reverse, to emphasize traditional fan braced tonal character while providing more volume than usually found in traditional guitars. Two ends to the same means which results in two similar, yet very different guitars. The Series ll will appeal strongly to players who identify with traditional fan braced instruments, yet find their volume usually lacking. Philip builds in both fan and lattice bracing styles and there is a high degree of 'crossover knowledge' that is applied freely between both styles of guitars. The result in the Series ll is a fan braced guitar with clear shimmering trebles that are complimented by silky supportive basses, concert level volume, and yet a very traditional tone. It has taken Philip years to refine this design, and recent examples have been very impressive guitars indeed. Woodfield Homepage - Click here ©2005 Classic Guitars International All rights reserved |
